What Ohio's coaching greats are saying about the OAC State Tournament Series

"The OAC State Championships is an essential stepping stone for any wrestler striving to be a High School State Champion. The experience wrestlers' gain at the OAC State Championship directly parallels the competition they will see as a high school wrestler. The one division format of the tournament gives each wrestler a true gauge of where they stand in the state. As Ohio is one of the top states nationally in the sport of wrestling, the OAC tournament is an outstanding way to prepare the young wrestler for the next level."

Jeff Jordan,
4x Ohio State Champion
Head Coach
St. Paris Graham High School
National Champions

"I have been involved with the OAC since the inaugural state tournament. It was impressive to see the number of talented junior high wrestlers at that event, even in its first year. Since that tournament I have watched wrestlers grow from being junior high state qualifiers, placers, and champions, into high school and college champions.

The youth and junior high state championship series helps to develop wrestlers by providing a test relatively early in their careers by pitting them against the best in the state regardless of division. I have watched several of our club and school wrestlers ready themselves for the district and state tournaments by practicing and developing the wrestling and life skills needed to succeed at the high school and college levels.

The OAC youth and junior high state series has been a learning, growing, and proving experience for thousands of Ohio's young athletes over the course of several years, and I feel that it is an extremely valuable tool for any young athlete striving for success."

New weight class for Jr. High State:

The Jr. High District and State will have an addition to the weight classes for the 2008 season. This year we will have a 74 lb weight class. Our data has determined the 78 lb weight class to be one of the most populated weights over the past 5 years. The actual weight data collected from the state tournament during this period shows that many of these wrestlers are 75 lbs or less. The addition of this weight class will help these wrestlers to be more competitive and put the 78 lb weight class closer to the other weight classes population.

We are always looking at ways to improve this Tournament and have implemented several of the ideas we've heard from you. We appreciate your suggestions and constructive comments. To help OAC events grow and improve click here for constructive comments.
